[quote . Also, does anyone who have a simplex? I do not how to oil up the axle pump or axle boxes... is there are any secret methods? I have my first pubic outing on friday Marc [/quote] ------------Hi MARC, both my Simplex chassis have an oiler hole on the top of the axlebox...You'll need a thin tube extension to reach through the spokes to access them OR}---- you might find that the builder has added proper oiling boxes.( These were shown in the original plans from Martin Evans but not everybody fitted them )--..These are usually on the front of the water tanks and inside the cab ( Either boxes again or round containers ) but in either case there will be an oil pipe going from them to the top of the axlebox.....Just a small splash on the axle pump ram when fully extended OR, you might find there is an oiling hole on top of the body casting ??.....As per "The Parrot" for applications.............Have a good day, and post some video if you can, please ??-------------------------------------------------- Here's the front ones>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> and here's the rear ones ---------

I will indeed.... hopefully I should have a good steam up. Last night I had another test steam up... but my firings skills betrayed me I couldn't get pressure hope as i forgot about the fire while concentrating on the injector. Defintely dont think i've seen oiling boxes,, i'll ask the old owner

I'd be using the hand pump during lighting up....wait until you have a full fire that's burning brightly and 3/4 glass of water and full pressure THEN worry over the injector.....Remember that the fire has first priority ( NO HEAT = NO GO !!)

That was my problem yesterday... i didnt let it blow off... i started testing at 60 psi... so lost fire and pressure I think on friday i will just concentrate on driving and firing and just use axle pump. I will try and test the injector next week before i'm off to my club / tourist attraction to drive under pressure! www.swissvapeur.ch/en/index.phpI cannot wait, it has miniatures buildings... a 150m long viaduct with pond underneath and many tunnels... and a mile of track only problem is its 2 hours drive away! Sounds like 5"gauge paradise !!---------- Some drivers like to leave their axle pump on all the time ( and tend to forget it's working and flood the boiler),, some like to use it as and when needed... You'll find your own preference as you get more experience under your belt.....I know you'll be taking water whenever you can ( helps keep those tanks cool--) but don't forget our little friend the lubricator as well.........Don't pack the burning coals down, leave lots of space for the air to boost the burning rate, and thus the power output......USEFUL TIP}----before lighting up make sure the ashpan and grate are free to be dropped at the end of the day.....Simplex is a nice, easy engine to own and run... I love 'em--------------ENJOY !!!
