Didn't think about taking it with you, I thought most tracks had unloading facilities ours has a hydraulic lift section of track which you can back up to and just wheel the loco out of the vehicle on to. I assumed this was the usual set up, but then its dangerous to assume anything, I was amazed when I found out that the water used is collected rain water stored in underground tanks and pumped up. Then I am fairly new to this and in hind sight with approx. 100+ engineers around most things are possible or should be !. Regards Paul

Hi guys----------Roger, I think you'll find that most, if not all, established club tracks have already some form of mechanical lift/lower, on/off device at their site..... After all it's not a new problem by any means....so I don't think you'll need to carry a loading device with you in the car...........In the last 40 odd years I never have found a need to, and that's ranging from carrying my mate's Simplex through to my Parallel Scot....( Morris Minor pick-up, Ford Escort estate, Escort van )...........Besides, after you've got the loco in, plus the "support" items ( Tool kit, blower, lighting-up wood/charcoal, change of shirt, wash gear, etc) I doubt if there will be any room left anyway..........EDIT}---- There's a thought !!....Do SMART cars have a pick-up in their range ??

That's good then Alan, because I don't think there will be room for a trolley. Fortunately, the back of the Smart Car opens with a drop down tail gate, so getting things in and out is easy. I know this is hard to believe, but I managed to get a Tumble Drier in the back of the Smart Car and shut the door! Ok, the driver's seat was as far forward as it would go.... it's a bit of a Tardis...

Hey, a friend had an old Austin Mini, passenger seat removed, and that's where he carried his large locomotives. Where theres a will, there's a way.

Just a sack truck, with rails down the long side, right to the top. Lay handles on ground, and you can roll loco up from ground level. Lay handles on car bumper and you can roll loco up the slope into car.

Now there's a thought.... or I could always cut a hole in the garage door, the car up and roll it out straight from the bench!

The Paddington drawings are to be reduced drastically to 5" although only being 3 1/2 miles from a 7 1/4 track!!! No not tempted Reeves want £1000 for the cylinders If I was a fan of the bigger gauge I would do a Broad gauge loco and be able to pick it up. I am picking the drawings up from a very helpful chap on here, and he lives just up the line! They cut out all the problems of doing it from works drawings, I have two other G W locomotives on the drawing board at present for rainy days at the moment!!!

If they're a good representation of the real thing then I think you're making a smart move and perhaps I should do the same. I have a horrible feeling that chaos might ensue though when I compare what I've got so far with what those plans look like. Let me know what you think of the drawings when you get them. I might have to pop over and take a look if that's ok?

Have a look at Machine Mart, Clarke's or similar companies, at their pump up trolleys. By the time you have made one it is possibly easier to buy.
We use one and can easily move my ½ ton Baldwin about.

I too am interested in the Paddington drawings if they prove to be good when scaled down. I wouldn't mind making up some extra frame stretchers for a start!

I thought about extra stretchers but I don't think they're necessary now. The pump stay , 4mm frames and the extra support from the two gear frame angles and the 'I' section tank support should be plenty. If you're has 1/8" frames if might be a little more flexible but even then it's probably enough. Oh, and I forgot there's also the brake bracket that spans the frame.

Two revelations dawned on me this morning.....No Kinver stand, Alan?
Also, the exhibition guide did not contain a list of all the models entered in to the exhibit and competition classes, as a result of which, we don't actually know what classes had entries! Were there any in Class 14 this year, or has it been another year of oh look no youngsters??

Hello "Young" Mr.Parrot---------no, I'm afraid not. I think that we ( Kinver) might be in the throws of a metamorphic change...... No coaches to either Harrogate or Bristol either this year, apparently due to lack of numbers............But at the last AGM there were a few changes on the "Top Table" so maybe they are still feeling their way ??............Individual members did go to these shows but just not enough to warrant the usual coach hire.......... As I'm not on the Committee I'm not privy as to why no more attendances at the Midlands show but my gut feeling is that other shows (NEC for example ) give a better overall experience for the members and a better return for the Club as a whole........EDIT}--- those of you with X-Ray specs might be able to read between the lines ??

...... As I'm not on the Committee I'm not privy as to why no more attendances at the Midlands show ..... You could build up confidence and lightly knock on the door of their tower and ask them? Not like Uncle Hagley to be reticent now is it?
