Actually this year the security of the models has been downgraded when it comes to removing them at the end of the show. This is the first year I've done our stand but I believe that it used to be the practice that you could not remove an exhibit from the exhibition without a piece of paper that was checked by the 'security' staff when it went out the door. This year it is the stand organisers responsibility to make sure that they are removed by their owners etc. at the end of the day. There's nothing to stop someone walking past a stand, picking up something and just walking out with it. John Sad fact of the world we live in! Mr. Baggo, Mr. bhk - that's true, but the way it was done was a token gesture and a farce anyway - so very little lost really. Perhaps they realised that? After experiencing the car park in earlier years,we thought we`d better give it a miss,we pick up our new Honda CV-R 4x sort of 4 next week so thought we`d better not risk our px car. Ray. I think that's really sad - I hope it was not caused by the over-egging of the issue on this forum. ......I'll be there on Saturday. Looking through the above there seems to be no pleasing some. If you don't go out today, it'll be harder tomorrow. This also applies to those business that support our little pass-time both exhibition venues and suppliers. They need us as much as we need them. Also, if you don't go there'll be nothing to moan about next week. Well said Steve. Meanwhile, can I just hear the low-level whirring of new machinery in the workshop of an Elder Statesman? Has the computing been set aside whilst full concentration is applied to this issue? Is he still in mourning for the cheque?

No,i was going to the exhibition to look at a new milling m/c which i decided to buy some weeks ago from Warco but bought it online from them instead after much research & measuring, not only that, the water softener sprang a leak on Thursday morning,by the time i`d sorted that,it was too late to go!!.I also buy online from a some of the suppliers who were there.
Cheers,Ray.

Had most of the day there today. It was a bit smaller than previous years, I didnt go last year but I seem to recall the tent section being a lot bigger. Overall a good day out, nice to see a part built 5" Dougal on the Melton Mowbray stand it has given me a bit of impetus to get back in the workshop and progress my 7 1/4" version and leave the old bikes alone for a while.

I'd not been before so was pleasantly surprised to find pretty solid parking surfaces with loads of gravel in between. No problem getting the Smart Car in or out. The permanent buildings are fine and on the whole it's not a bad show. It was good to catch up with John Baguley and see Ed's locomotive which is even bigger than I imagined! That's going to be an impressive and powerful beast.
I managed to find the protective paste I was told about, the one to keep flux and Silver Solder off threads etc, I'm keen to give that a try. I couldn't resist a solid carbide centre drill and some Morse Sleeves as well as a Sprung Centre to assist with tapping holes. Altogether a very pleasant day out.

I have had a 71 Rocket3 to fine tune and have completely rebuilt a 69 Trident so both should be ok for a while now.

My little BSA has been under refurbishment for over 5 years so long that some parts have already rusted again. I'm so heavily into the model engineering these days that I've lost interest in it really which is a shame cos it's a nice little bike. I reckon only half a day to finish it so I really should get on with it.

Been down stewarding today, car park was the best I've ever seen it in years! New extension looks good, but yes, only 1 of the tents this year. No downstairs catering and no G1 layout - what's that all about? I've only had a quick squizz round, I see Chester had a smaller stand than last year, no Reeves, or Arc Euro Trade, I noticed someone else wasn't there but I've forgotten who it was now. Didn't seem to be many clubs there as in the past, and we've been given a smaller stand than previously. Met a good few folks today, Pete,Tim, Paul..saw Baggo while I was in conversation, couple of chaps from Bristol..sure there was more... Shopping and proper look tomorrow...after I've been shopping for a new fridge damn it!

Was it Chronos, didn't they used to go Chronos wernt there, they seem to go to less shows these days, as do Reeves. Pretty sure neither of them went to Ally Pally last year either.

I found those scrapped and sectioned boilers, both copper and steel, very interesting. Some were shocking examples that on the face of it looked ok. I'll certainly be paying good attention to Julian's thread when I get that far, I don't want any horror stories like those.

Hey, come on chaps - never mind who wasn't there (the losers whether trade or modellers). What matters is who WAS there. Plenty of locos and ships, which is just fine for me. Shared a few words with the LBSC-encyclopedic Baggo. What a pleasure. Plus annual face-to-face with Simon Bowditch. Roll on, as they say......

evening guys....had a great day with my wife in tow....was great to meet up with Ed and John(baggo), Ed's Manning Wardle looks great, she's certainly going to be a beast.... Alas I didn't know who else to look out for or how to spot them...didn't see any of my fellow club members either. Sorry i missed Paul and Tim, btw guy's what did you think of the 5" Flying Scotsman...looked ok... wasn't a Don Young design though which is a shame, not seen one close up in A1/3 guise, seen a couple of A4's though, as for the 10 1/4 gauge FS, least said the better..... Cheers Pete

I also took a keen interest in those scrap boiler sections shown on the Northern federation stand...also of note was the brass fitting showing what happens when using brass fittings on copper boilers... all very interesting....think i'll be sure to make all my fittings from bronze... As a side note I came across the stand for tig welding, can't remember the name although I have their card somewhere. out of curiosity I asked if they had a price for Doncaster...£3400... that's not bad when comparing to the likes of Western steam. I don't particularly like the look of a tig welded boiler but I do appreciate the advantages, one being that if a part fails later in life it's relatively easy to fix unlike a silver soldered boiler. Hi Richard hmm... many things...it looked like a freelance model that had been given the 4472 identity....nicely built but not much like a Gresley design...tender chassis was all wrong, had twin bogie's for a start so perhaps built to go around a track with tight curves, the GA only barely resembled a Gresley A1. However she looked nice as did the 5" gauge in front of her and there's no taking away the amount of talented work gone into the building of both of them, I guess since i have spent a copious number of hours researching this locomotive I tend to notice very quickly any errors or lack of content when compared to the prototype. Both looked pretty though... Pete
