He's not allowed, planning laws and all that. He's been applying for years to have a building built that would replace the marquee but they won't let him.

Maybe they should find somewhere a little less agricultural, there must be something better than a tent in a field in the area?

Well it is in the middle of the green belt so probably not allowed to, try going to a National Trust property, they are usually grass areas for parking, if people drive sensibly there should not be a problem, after all once you park you only have to move one car length over grass. Dont, forget this is a venue that only holds a few events a year, no need to cover everywhere with tarmac. David

Don't like it don't go then, there will be plenty there, even if it is wet. It is the midlands show, why don't you go to Ally Pally or Sandown instead. We dont all want to travel to london Or Harrogate

It's just to ring the changes really, I've never been and there might be some different models on display. It's a Boy's day out, that's all. I'm just surprised that it's not in a more permanent setting like all the other ones I've been to, it all sounds a bit makeshift.

Had a quick look around this afternoon and there is some nice stuff there. But the show is/seems a lot smaller than previous years as the tent has a row of stands up the middle and along both sides and I am sure that previous years have had 2 rows of stands up the middle plus the sides. Also I did not see the large O? gauge layout.

Didn't get chance to have a look around today but my brother commented that the Gauge 1 layout which is usually in the marquee bit wasn't there. Will have a nosy around tomorow now the stand is set up. Will be there for 9am tomorrow so will park with the front wheels as close to the path as possible! The car park seemed fine today though. I thought part of the marquee area had been replaced by a permanent structure? Had a really slow journey back to Derby due to traffic on the A5. 2½ hours to do 58 miles! Hope it's not going to be like that every day John

But it is the Midlands show run by Meridiene Exhibitions sponsored by Tee Publishing who both happen to be based at the site at Fosse Way and I expect own the site, so why should they find somewhere more suitable. It is the 37th year, although some of those years were at Stoneleigh, so it looks like they are doing something right, for me it is the one I go to every year, it is my local as it is for many others. It also allows clubs local to the area to have a stand and exhibit their models without having to travel 100+ miles and possibly attracts for them, new members. Don't think you will find many Northern or Southern clubs there just as you will not find many or even any Midlands clubs at Harrogate. David

Part of the tent is now a new building, but there's only one tent now not the 2 there used to be. Only the upstairs restaurant not the downstairs in the tent but a burger van outside. Also did not see the G1 layout.

Personally I preferred Stoneleigh to this present set-up.................Location ??--Well, there's more to the Midlands than just the Eastern side, and besides a change is as good as a rest I'd say..............I really enjoy my visits to Harrogate precisely because there AREN'T any of my local area clubs there.....It's that DIFFERENCE that makes the difference ( if you see what I mean ??)------- Incidentally it's about 85 miles from Shrewsbury to Leamington or a tad under 100 miles from Oswestry, both towns having an active club and track site......

But this present set up is at the organisers own site which is only about 15 miles from Stonleigh, so its unlikely to go back to Stoneleigh or somewhere else and for me its 170 miles to Harrogate and 85 miles to Sandown Park and for the two clubs I belong to but i do go to both but not every year. These exhibitions are organised and run by commercial businesses and are put on to make money for their business and hopefully to encourage model engineering in one form or another, which in turn helps their sales on the publishing side. Perhaps some people need to start up their own business and exhibition if they are not happy with what is about at the moment, then they can have the venue they want in the area they want..............Perhaps the main hall at the NEC is available?? would that suit??? Me, I am happy with Leamington every year and Harrogate and Sandown every few years, sorry you are not nearer to leamington but then you would not want to go if you were from what you say. You can't please everyone all of the time unfortuneately

I've not been to Harrogate for quite a few years now...don't think since I finished Uni...Next time I get a chance I think I'll go again, different clubs and different models. I did try to get to Ally Pally 2 shows ago, but there was heavy snow and my train from Rugby was delayed by early 2 hours before I even started! Decided in the interests of being able to get home again it would be wiser to give up...damn shame I'd bought my ticket in advance...
