Evening chaps/chapesses Tonight I cover the making of the combination levers, I am beginning to run out of motion parts to make although those few parts that are left won't be a five-minute job to machine, however, I am getting closer to that all-important milestone of running on air, assuming she will actually run that is?... It will probably be the union link next plus all the required pins but I have some things to do first in preparation for making the ashpan which means the boiler needs to be removed. This is no bad thing as it needs to come off anyway so that I can remove the running boards to fit the now finished combination levers.... it seems that there is no end to how many times the model needs to be taken apart... 4472flyingscotsman.co.uk/combination-lever/Pete

"assuming she will actually run that is?"... probably about as likely as the Sun rising tomorrow, from what I've seen. I wouldn't bet against it!

Not a blog entry as it's only a catch-up, just finishing up parts touched on before. In this case, it's those unique pieces of brass trim that are only found around 4472's splashers in the class. Two pictures, one to show one of the trims after being polished using Autosole, it's difficult to photo how shiny it is, trust me it's pretty bright. The other to show the trim now fitted to their respective splashers, these are bonded using an epoxy. Later in a few month's time, I'll tackle the black/white lining once the green has fully cured. Hi guys
Just a heads up to say that all of the pictures in this thread that link from Photobucket will soon disappear, or so Photobucket tells me. The account was locked by them some time ago and is now in the queue for permanent deletion. The original images are safe as I downloaded them many months ago, I have spent some time on my blog replacing the Photobucket images with my own so hopefully, there will be no disruption there, unless I have missed some of course?. That took a lot of work which I don't think that I can go through again with those images in this thread, I'll see how things go, if I get time I will try to update the thread. In the meantime, for any images which someone may wish to see, let me know which one and on what page and I'll sort out the image and replace it with the original.
Kind regards
Pete

Kind regards Pete Hi Pete, That really sucks, let's hope it's an empty threat. It's hard to see how they will handle the backlash if that happens, but who knows. There must be a lot of people who are relying on these images being available. It's sad when so much hard work is put into it and then someone changes the terms and conditions. I won't be at all surprised if that happens to mine in time. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I suppose there will be archived web pages for all of those if people know where to look though.

to be fair I've been getting warning emails for months, two or three a week, or at least it seems that. Each one sounding more aggressive and so this week I tried to log in to delete some files no longer needed. I could not log in as my account is locked with another warning saying to upgrade or delete the account. At this point, I wondered if since this all started if I have accepted any new terms and conditions just to be able to gain access, I have some recollection of doing so? As with all these things I never read the small print and so have no idea what may have been included, it dawned on me the possibility that they could have added a clause where they could charge me for the storage that I've enjoyed over the years and I wouldn't know about it. Paranoia perhaps? but I wasn't prepared to take the chance, Photobucket doesn't have a good record for customer service after all. I, therefore, took the decision to delete the account myself, this took some time to do but eventually, I got confirmation that the delete instruction has been put in the queue, I got the impression that the queue is very long. So this is just me playing safe, I don't need unexpected financial stresses put on myself or my wife, as I said, I don't trust the company one bit. I have all of the images and one day I'll try to rectify the issue but right now I have an engine to complete and time isn't on my side.
regards
Pete

Evening all, tonight I have the union links, these have taken much longer than they should have, purely as I had to wait 10 days for a suitable woodruff cutter, the first company failed, sending me an email a few days after ordering to say they were out of stock and not expecting any new for 4 -6 weeks?? The next company I heard nothing from, contacted them yesterday, promised to call back, and didn't but did send a confirmation email of the order? The cutter arrived this morning so good on them for realising they had clearly forgotten my order and swallowing the cost to send it out next day delivery. So that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it... here's the link 4472flyingscotsman.co.uk/union-links/Pete

Hi everyone, yes I know, it's been a while...my apologies for providing no updates since early October and being quiet about it. Some of you guys will know the reasons why, but without going into detail my health took a dive last October which meant I couldn't do any machining and nor could I drive. Things have improved and I now feel able to continue with 4472, I've even been for a drive too, things must be looking up...🙂 Ok, so to business, in the last update I said that the next part would be the radius rods and so they are. This is a reasonably short update for me as I ease myself back into the task at hand. It's a good start though and the critical parts have been worked out and machined. i also hope to in the near future cover the making of the ashpan which will be made from 1.5 mm stainless steel. considering how much swarf I'll be making for the next stage of the radius rods I'm very much looking forward to being able to do a little fabricating for a change. Thanks for looking in chaps... 4472flyingscotsman.co.uk/radius-rods/Pete

Cheers David Thanks Dave, yes I think I have that one, I have 2 or 3 by him, I'm pretty sure that I have this one as I recognise the title and publisher but will double check just in case. Hi guys I wasn't going to post this on the forum as it seems a bit like a boast? but thought that it should at least be in my build thread as it's a part of the story. Anyway, this is the latest ME 4685 which came out last week and I was very happy and proud to see that 4472 had made the front cover. I think that this picture is at least 6 years old so they still have a fair way to go before they catch up with where I am today and of course, I'm still building even if at a slower rate just now... Kind regards Pete

Hi Pete, It's not boasting at all, it's recognition of your achievement, and well deserved. Sharing projects encourages others to progress with their own.
