Evening chaps Today i fitted two dummy eccentric rods just to see how things were looking, all seems ok so far, nothing timed yet and still no bobbings fitted but we are getting there. I have a short video to show the state of play, please forgive the abrupt cutoff, cameraman (er wife) decided she had heard enough of my waffle, to be fair, I hadn't briefed her properly.. Pete

I received the rest of my order that was mentioned in the 'what I've done today', these were the digital DTI and a 4" extension probe. The DTI uses rechargeable lithium batteries, I charged the unit up as it was flat, to begin with. Here's the DTI on charge with the extension prob fitted, note the red light to show that it's charging and not fully charged yet. And here we have the fully charged DTI now showing a green light being held by the magnetic stand. This will do nicely for the job at hand. I will be able to very accurately measure the FDC and with the extension prob fitted I'll get an accurate measurement of the BDC too. That will sort out the eccentric rod lengths and then I can use it for the valve setting later. I've ordered some more stuff too, there was a thread recently about how to secure the motion pins, I said at the time that the current plan was to use Loctite on the outside part of the forks. This plan has now changed and I'll be following full-size practice and securing all of the pins with small taper pins. To do this I have ordered a set of jewellers taper broaches and matching pins. Cheers Pete

Hi guys I just realised that my last post for the build was back in June. gulp, where did the time go? I have popped in just to say for those who may not be aware that I haven't disappeared. Around the time of my last post we took the decision here to move home and thus all work has stopped until that mission has been completed, currently, I'm dismantling the workshop gear ready for when that day comes. This may be some time off yet depending on the solicitors involved, we have sold subject to contract and have agreed on a price on our new home also subject to contract. Things seem to be going well but hey, you just never know until you have the keys. So I'm afraid that work on 4472 has stopped until we have moved and more importantly built up a new workshop, god knows how long that may take but I can say that it will be my first priority. Some of you will be aware that the Model Engineer magazine has been publishing my articles for the last 20 months and they are catching up to where I am. Hopefully, I'll be back up and running before they do... Pete

Hi Pete,
Good luck with the move!
I don't know how you are going to move your workshop, but if you can put as much as possible onto pallets (large ones), then you can get a lorry with a tail-lift and pallet truck. It's amazing what you can move this way! I even moved a 1 ton milling machine. However it did make the tail-lift grunt a bit!!!

Thanks Chris
Luckily I don't have any large machines and also 4 sons to help. I have made a good start...the garage (original workshop) which was mostly used for storing has been completely cleared and I'm now in the process of packing the workshop gear into crates and then putting those into the now cleared garage ready for putting into storage. The plan is to move as much as possible to a storage unit close to the new place a few weeks before completion. Hopefully on the actual moving day there will be very little left to move, perhaps an hours worth in the morning. I can then collect whats in storage at leisure...gives me time to sort the new house without any clutter. We'll be using family transport. At least that's the current plan...🙂
Pete
