Building Don Young's Doncaster

Ok guys well some have asked me to start a build thread for my project, knowing how much I both enjoy and get encouragement to continue my own projects purely from reading others endeavours with their's I'll help contribute to this as best I can.

A little about myself, I am new to the forum and also to live steam too, this will be my first loco. I know very little about the workings of these beautiful machines despite that fact I have had a great admiration for them since a very young age, mainly due to the influence of my late grandfather. I have no training in engineering, all I know is either self taught or from many years working in the film industry where amongst other titles I am credited as an engineer. Having said that I have worked with some great engineers in an industry which is second to no other country in the world.

Ok enough about me now on to the fun stuff, the images that I have are taken directly from my Facebook album which I found is a very fast and easy way to log my progress as it was done. All images are taken by my iPhone and since my PC is dead I am using the iPhone App from Proboards to do this thread.

I didn't really start taking pictures until the tender frames had been erected so that's where I shall start, it may take me a few days to get up to date and I suspect many years before completion, here's hoping this App works, let's see...

Alxe boxes already well advanced having already been bored out, tray recesses machined, here the concave edge to top and side of the box is being machined. Stubs for covers having previously been drilled and tapped for 10 BA studding

Test fit of tray to axle box making sure it's a good fit for the axle, I still need to make the oilway blocks which will then fit through slots in the covers when machined later

Thanks for doing this thread, I'll be interested to follow your progress as we've got a part built Doncaster at our club that someone donated, it'll need to be tackled someday!

Beast is the word, as for uploading pictures, well I'm limited in which ever way I choose to do it using my iPhone, I find it hard enough just writing the text.. Lol

Still at least I can get the images here even if in a haphazzrard way.

They are lovely pics, but simple folk like me just look at the last 30 posts to keep up with events. If there are lots of single attachments connected with a single event it's quite easy to miss previous posts, so a hosting service such as photobucket where I can list multiple pics is the preferred option for me.

I sometimes wish I hadn't got into so many projects of my own, I could keep myself busy just with the club locos - there's 2 that have been donated, the Doncaster and a LBSC Minx which needs some work done on the boiler.

Pete you have done some beautiful work there, quite inspirational in fact which is what makes this site so good.
From what you say about yourself it sounds as if you have the sort of background many of us have so I wouldn't be too worried, you learn as you go and pick up tips from other modelers.
