Ah--ha !!
Hoisted by my own petard, I think ( More of a Naval tradition, alas !!)
Wasn't that photo part of a set I posted recently ??
Yes, plenty more questions as and when appropiate, and all be within the margins of the thread matter, of course..........
I wish I had become a follower of your excellent work much earlier on----- I'm only now beginning to realise how much I must have missed.
Best regards
Alan

Flattery will get you nowhere, and this is a distinct NOD to avoid my build thread, as you so succinctly put it... Many thanks John

John The NOD as you put it was related to going Off Thread---something I clearly am trying to avoid with my last reply....I do hope that's crystal clear ?? Flattery .... in your dreams....That was just a statement of fact.... Unless the Moderators have a problem with my interest in your build thread--- and tell me so in open notice --- I'll carry on just like anyone else on here...

Your attitude is redolent of a certain Spaniard. This thread is now dormant until the sycophants see through your attention seeking wiles and common sense prevails. Bye folks! John

Come on now John,....... no need to make others the scapegoat just because we have our differences...........I'll go quietly into the night and promise not to reply to ANY of your threads either now, or in the future....whilst you can carry on building Britannia etc
And the whole Forum can bear witness right here to my intent.....
It has proven to be---- as I suspected -----a bad idea to return here..

Play nicely, Alan!
Bygones should be bygones, and we have all moved on.
Provoking John over what happened a few years back doesn't show the forum in a good light.
Lets draw a line under all this unpleasantness of a few years ago.
Cheers,
Julian

Cheers, Julian Hi Julian, Just a minute chaps-------- no one mentioned previous activities, well I didn't anyhow........If you trawl through all my postings as delaplume you'll not find any "Malice aforethought" in my contributions....I made that intention quite clear at the outset, didn't I ?? Sorry but I thought I did draw a line in that last post ?? OK--OK, I've no axe to grind with you dear friend so let's ALL move forwards in a spirit of Harmony and Good Cheer ??.. if not for the Forum's sake then at least mindful of the coming season, eh ?? I'll give it my best effort---- I'm sure those concerned will do likewise Now can we put this to rest ??.....I've a Great Bear to build and a 3-bed house to vacuum !! All the best Alan

A good start to the festive season would be to commence a build thread on the Great Bear. Many of us have heard about it but never seen it and from all accounts it would make an interesting series on a locomotive not often seen on sites such as this. Just a thought.

Hi Jim, Half one in the morning and I'm still pounding these keys !!..LoL !!
I'm all in favour of that idea except for one thing}---- The Bear has always been a "Back burner" project with it's roots founded in the collapse of a 5-man joint Castle building project..
My main Model Engineering time-spent at the moment is on overhauling and restoring 4 off Simplex locos and done in a workshop set out similar to the SVR works at Bridgnorth......
One Simplex is my own, personal one ( to be outshopped in London transporT livery )..... 2 others are being done side-by-side for sale ASAP...The money earned will form the bulk of my Funeral Fund ( It has to be faced up to at some time !!) whilst the 4th is dog-rough and after a boiler-on re-paint will be used as a Club spare and/or trainer for the juniors....
The recently acquired Mogul is in full ticket so will be the flagship for next season, whilst there is a Battery-Electric Class 20 for full green livery in the Summer ( D8000 as in York museum ) .... Then there's Club work days on Tuesday ( Oswestry MES ) and Thursday ( Stafford MES ) during 9 out of 12 months...
What I could do is a sort of Blog-ette with the occasional photo and a brief description....I'll start in the New Year perhaps Feb or March as I'm going to need to create some more Bench space in order to Photograph etc..
I can start off now with a few words by saying that it is to my overall design but following Churchwards main dimentions..........The running gear incorporates the late Peter Rich Star / Castle parts.... I've made great use of modern production processes wherever possible eg}--- Malcolm High's Laser cutting service has been invaluable ....The boiler is to my design with proof reading done by John Ellis.......He was then contracted to build it....
OK-- that's all for now

OK-- that's all for now Alan That sounds a fascinating project Alan and one that I for one would be interested in following I'm sure that there would be many more followers too if truth be known. I've long entertained the idea of building one of the Midland 4-4-0s utilising parts from existing kits. Looking forward to seeing some words and photos.

[/quote] Jim Could not resist!! Don Young did a 2P in 3 1/2" which you could scale up. Steve Titley of Fareham did one years ago and his only comment was that the boiler was more a 4F one than a 2P one, this helped DY get the drawings done quicker. I have the drawings and words electronically if you would like them. I have the drawings for Mike Smart's Compound although you are a bit far away to lend them to you. Could check the postage as I will not be using them for a project or two!! I have always thought the "Beatrice" was a lovely 4-4-0. Look her up here commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:4-4-0_Midland_Beatrice_1757.jpg she was a 1738 class loco and her chassis is very much Princess of Wales so the castings are there. Let me know when you start!! David Edit, Sorry John did not realise I was on your thread chattering about red engines. It's all Jim's fault!

Last I heard this thread was dormant............One way of getting a Midland 4-4-0 is to disguise a Maid of Kent...quite a few of those around...I've driven Tony Lancaster's ( Coventry MES ) and very nice it looked too....

Anything you post on here is reviewed in the light of that nasty prolonged attack on here you made against Alan.

Ok, I'll start the thread now rather than later so we can ALL progress.............look out for the title}---- "The Great Bear" and associated matters..
NB}----I welcome ALL contributions, points of view, experiences, even if "Flowery language" is your preferred modus operandi.....
Hello John ---- I know you are reading this ----- You can re-activate your thread now..... I do hope you can find the time to contribute to my thread, even if it's just the odd Anglo Saxon Expletive ( Deleted ) ......al la Richard Milhous Nixon..

Could I point out that this is Simplyloco's build thread for his Britannia not some backyard wasteland to jabber away on. No wonder he gets annoyed so I could ask you to move this nonsense elsewhere! And yes I fell into the trap with Jim. I apologised to SL and will do that same to Jim, is wasn't all your fault. David

New Manifold in PlaceThank you all for your messages. I am well pleased with this design change: it adds a touch of realism to a very small locomotive.
