The Britannia is looking brilliant John. It can't too long before you're ready to have your first steam up can it?
Have a great Christmas
Jim.

I Got Some More 'Ose!Another crack at mastering flimsy transfers as I couldn't trust myself to take the lining pen around the template! Having got them lined up and dried out, I decided to mask up the artwork before sealing it, as I've seen so many transfers go awry at this stage... WP_20181210_15_04_02_Pro by inkaboat, on Flickr Finished result. WP_20181210_15_40_45_Pro by inkaboat, on Flickr And how it looks on the Brit. Well pleased. I've also painted the handrails, apart from a touch up or two, as the Stainless Steel looked slightly ridiculous... WP_20181210_17_21_20_Pro by inkaboat, on Flickr

I found some long lost (2009) template drawings (.dwg) that I produced at an early stage. Just print out full size, stick to the metal and hack away! If anyone making their own Brit boiler wants them then just just PM me with your email address. John Screenshot (2) by inkaboat, on Flickr

At first glance at page 54, I didn't realise you're building 3 1/2". Very neat work!

Contrary to popular belief, in between the Stuart No. 9 and the Scotch boiler, I've been quietly working on finishing the Brit. The RHS is done, and all I have to do now to the LHS is paint the regulator shafts, fit the running board and blinkers, touch up some errant paintwork, and it's ready for the mantelpiece! Pheuww! Cheers,

Hi John, No drain cocks with piston valves? Cheers, Julian Well spotted. Fitting those would be done when I get another round toit!

Hi John, No drain cocks with piston valves? Cheers, Julian Well spotted. Fitting those would be done when I get another round toit! Hi John, an unfortunate omission during construction because if you decide on cab operated drain cocks then the linkage is going to require some disassembly which could affect the effort put in to achieve a magnificent locomotive. I assume the cylinders are not drilled to take the drain cocks so that is more disassembly. Steam operated drain cocks require more rework and perhaps changes to the backhead. You could have each pair of drain cocks linked and operated at the cylinder but this is a bit of a bodge and not your style. Using automatic drain cocks are not recommended for piston valve locomotives, but I have seen them work of a few locomotives, but not on inclined cylinders. I am probably underestimating your ability to take this omission in your stride, so your are not fazed by it. But good luck anyway should you need it. Brian

The cylinders are drilled and tapped for drain cocks. I'll make some automatic ones at some time in the future , but as I'm not going to steam it they are purely ornamental! John

Hi John, Having seen it in the flesh all those years ago in its earlier build state, I must say it is looking very splendid. Makes my small scale stuff (even the scratch built ones) seem like a walk in the park! Cheers Terry

Make it dirty and 'orrible? This little clip proves that it worked straight out of the box, without any adjustments, and that was good enough for me! Actually, it's an IKEA sideboard... If you aren't steaming it after all his hard work......can I have the boiler off you? Seems shame to have a beautiful pro boiler sat in there not being used, always good to have a spare if anything happened to grandads!

My hunch is that the sight of it on the "mantlepiece" will lead to daydreams about the glory days of the Brits, which only lack one thing.... the smell of coal smoke and hot oil. And eventually out will come the steam-raising blower!
Either that or the great grandchildren who inherit it in 30 years time will find they live next door to a track and decide to see what great-grand-dad's loco will do.
Leave the boiler as it is, just in case!
In Steam or cold, it's a lovely piece of work.
Malcolm

Good try Adam, but clearly this is an electric model - there's no steam coming out of the chimney!!
