Good try Adam, but clearly this is an electric model - there's no steam coming out of the chimney!! You got me Steve, I'll let John borrow the electric tender just so he can play with on the track without getting it dirty!

Just as I hate seeing a good loco sit idle (last nudge I promise) this is Dad driving his Dads Brit, the smile is enough for me! Click on the images to see the videos. SNIP Adam That looks very nice indeed: it's even the same colour as mine! However, I remain un-nudged... John

I hate to say lest Adam hears but I'm starting to think like you. 'Is a 600km round trip to the club and plus the hassle of loading everything in the car then getting it out again not to mention getting all the muck off when I'm back home. Is it what I really enjoy when 70036 sits all nice a shiny on it's track in the workshop for me to look at?' Besides the next project is buzzing in my mind, yes it's a beam engine and our local ME supplier has the castings too. The mantle piece will need some extra support.

Excellent news! We, with others at our side, might even turn this model engineering forum back into a model engineering forum!

But Jim it's just a collection of nuts and bolts and metal bits on the mantelpiece. At least put some water in the boiler and fire in her belly and have her run at least once before you put the old girl out to grass.

I do believe that some people call it art, a!though I am mystified by most of it! My Brit will be around long after a lot of 'art' has exceeded its sell by date!

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Reckon your next project should be to wined up enuff locals to build a track! After all you got parliament grounds not far away..... hardly anything useful gets done there, what better than a model loco track?
Cheers Kerrin …. pulling on his pith helmet & ducking for cover!

Mike I've had her in steam Mike on the test track and will fire her up again shortly to test the rebuilt injector clacks. The whistle annoys the next door dog and sets it barking like mad and if I open the smokebox door I can see soot and even smell the coal dust so all is not lost. Before I make a final decision I'll have a nice chat with her, the loco that is, over a soothing ale to see what she wants to do. Jim

Spot on Kerrin. Nothing even passingly useful gets done under that mound of dirt and grass that's called Parliament House which is why Australia is moving to NZ! Yes it's true we're all voting for Jacinda to come and save us. I'll bring some snags and soothing ales for the party when it happens possibly around April. The other beaut thing that will come out of it will be that we won't have to be beaten at Rugby anymore playing the All Blacks. Jim

Jim As Kerin's club is arguably the closest in NZ to ACT (and NSW) he's just lining you all up for country memberships. OK country memberships were intended for people living in the country, but I'm sure the rules can be stretched to those living in another country. Pete

Looking forward to JOHN’s next installment!

The Last Post
The Brit in its new home: the conservatory! It will become either a family heirloom or pay for my passing out! I doubt very much that I will finish the tender, as I have many other projects on the go. My grateful thanks for the support and encouragement provided by the many contributors to my (very) long standing build thread. Good luck with your Britannia builds and I sincerely hope that my contributions have assisted some of you, and may continue to do so. I'm pleased with it, as it looks the right shape and is apparently the correct colour, but you made a bold statement about its potential some years ago, and I'm quite sure that it hasn't lived up to your expectations! Bongo is still just about the best miniature loco that I have ever seen. Regards John

Hi John,
Thank you too for your kind comments.
There is just one thing you should do with your locomotive: Light a fire in it and enjoy the wheels going round with steam. You don't need to take it to a track and get it all mucky, just sitting on blocks on the bench will do. Then you will have the satisfaction of knowing that it has worked. It will smell right afterwards too!
You of course will do as you please!!
All best Chris.
