Hi all, this afternoon I took the front buffer beam off the loco, with the intention of turning the spigot off the buffer stock and silver soldering a longer one on and threaded on the end to take a nut to secure the buffer stock. But to my surprise the stock wouldn't come off after i'd taken the four 8 BA out. What I found was the spigots were silver soldered and it was me who did it but couldn't remember doing it. So I looked it up in my records and found I did it in 2014, now you might think that Geoff is loosing it , but it is a better way and your loco will never be accidently dropped .

Good to see you back working on the Clan Geoff.
I've tried a couple of times to email you but I believe your computer was out of action. I hope it's now fixed and all systems go.
Cheers
Jim

Hi all, a Model Engineering friend of mine who joined the Royal Navy just before WW 2 and did his engineering training at Portsmouth. He showed me how they snapped gauge glass tubes as taught in the RN by placing them in your mouth and snapping them at the desired place. Question I would like to ask , is there any other RN men who were taught this way.

Hard men in the navy! We cut glass tube to length by nicking it with a fine triangular file, and spitting on the nick. It would then break quite easily in the right place. In my book the mouth is for putting food in, not glass tubes or other items. Reminds me of another ex navy man who could take crown caps off beer bottles with his teeth. Didn't have many teeth left though.

I remember moving office. The filing cabinets were too heavy, so the men just removed the top drawer and one man would lift rest, with three full drawers by himself. Up stairs!

Can't see from here but right now Jupiter is to the right of the moon, if so it will be lower. Mind you it may be below the horizon now.

Hi Geoff, Suns shinning here so ………
Looking on the Night Sky app……from down under Uranus is just below the horizon, , the moon just above, followed by Neptune, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Pluto, Venus & the sun……..the app is not showing a bright star close to the moon so best guess would be Uranus……

Hi all Geoff here, this last week I fitted the regulator rodding alongside the boiler and I've read in these pages that a long time ago that if you made the rodding from 1/8" BMS it was a bit delicate . So I made mine 5/32" BMS but looks a bit over size and I wonder if any Britannia builders have had this problem.-----Geoff (Carlisle).

Great to see you back on the site and working on your Clan Geoff.
Tomorrow I'll check the Britannia's regulator rods and get back to you. I know mine tended to flex if you tried push the regulator too far, the full size had this problem too and fitted guide to stop any flexing.
Cheers
Jim.
