This Bidder 1, 2, 3 etc was introduced recently by Ebay to try and stop the problem of fake 'second chance offers' on high value items, I think it starts at bids of £100+, only thing is it solves one problem and makes another worse, it's a shill bidders charter. It has caused a fair bit of adverse comment on the Ebay forums. Ron

I've messaged the seller. Current boiler is by Bruce Ellis, but he doesnt have a certificate for it so it'll need a 2nd 2x hydraulic.

If a boiler does not have a certificate because is expired or lost but it has a history in a club ,surely the record can be retrieved and only a 1.25 x pressure is required .That is the system here .

Good news!! He's now found a boiler cert! :
"I have now found the Boiler Cert for the mountaineer, It had a Hydraulic test on the 14/3/04, expiry was 13/3/06, this was done by the Milton Keynes MES."
And you can buy the loco (bits) for more than £2k. I suppose he will be looking for nearer his original outlay of £5k now ;D

Sold for £2100. Considerably less than an offer he recieived via e-mail and declined prior to it being relisted the third time... Hope the guy is happy now he has got rid of his "Investment"

Which would be a shame john

This thread has been a bit hijacked concerning "auction of a Mountaineer" rather than the loco itself but... As a close, I sent the buyer a message, and in summary he is an experienced model engineer, and has researched its background well, including on here. And about the vendor. He hopes he has not touched it other than disassembling He is going to take a very serious look at that boiler because that is where the value is. The slightest doubt about it or the integrity of the paperwork and he will walk away. Ad gain 1 negative feedback so thats not a loss. So, it might appear again... ;D Regards, John

Hi, I am new to this board, I am in the process of finishing a 3.5" Mountaineer and would be interested in making contact with others who have or are building Moutaineer. Cheers Graham.

MOUNTAINEER has now sold his 3 1/2" guage Mounatineer (via Ebay) and it is now owned by a member of the Reading society of model engineers, so hopefully it should be seen out on the track shortly, possibly at the same time as my RUSSELL...
I also have seen the 5" guage Mountaineer sold on E-bay, and it is a bit of a lemon, but the guy who now owns it is working hard at bringing it back to life. He expects it to be finished by the end of next year...
