You were so lucky Julian. I often wonder how differently things would have worked out for my interest in Steam Locomotives if the Southampton Model Engineers had taken even the slightest interest in me. Still, I'm here now... better late than never! Roger That is the second time you have told us that the Southampton Society was not interested in you and I am starting to get sensitive about it as those people who were rude to you have all gone and we are very friendly and welcoming to new members. We had 96 members in 2013 before the memebers rebelled and now after a year we are up to 110. Come and see us and we will give you a big hug, a cup of tea and perhaps even a biscuit to dip in it!!!!! I don't care if you slam the bad attitudes of yesteryear but now we are past all that. Please be nice to us!! Cheers David

Fair comment, I should have made it much clearer that this was a very long time ago. I'm sure things are very different now. Apologies for any hurt caused, I'll not mention it again.

Well if Roger won't take you up on FREE FOOD, I CERTAINLY WILL !!!........ Oh, I've already got that on my 'to do' list for this coming year. I'm rather looking forward to it as it happens. It will seem really strange to stand there as an adult because the last time I was there, I went on my bike and must have been about 15 or 16 years old.

I used to do the same - I used to tape my Sweet Pea frame rails to the cross bar of the bike, with the buffer beams, spacers and pony truck in my backpack. I live on a big hill, so going down wasn't too bad... but coming home, now that was hard work!

Well if Roger won't take you up on FREE FOOD, I CERTAINLY WILL !!!........ Hagley You are welcome anytime. We get fantastic sausages from our local butcher and on 'special days' we get the BBQ going and feast. That and carrot cake from Costco and a box or two of Danish pastries and who needs locos! (I bet Roger will be on a diet!!) We have a committee meeting this afternoon to do next years programme and I hope to tell you that we will do a 'singles day' as well as repeat the 3 1/2" special. Last year we had some 8 x 3 1/2" locos running and more part builts. I reckon we will have at least six singles so it should be a fun play!! Cheers David

I have been told I can't attend by the other half who was looking over my shoulder and saw the reference to a "Singles Day" and got entirely the wrong idea, and they say there is a problem in translating different languages.

Do you have a postcode for the track in Southampton and we can see how far it is from Reading? Problem is that we may just get as far as Marwell Zoo which Katie loves. This is the problem with some clubs but in the end they either become more friendly or disapear as people leave.
Yes I cant look at a small dog these days without growling SAUSAGES!!!

Dear Mrs Juliet2 The kind of Singles you are thinking of hang about in bars. If you like "Single Wheelers" you hang about on tracks and that is what we do while you do retail therapy! release the poor man! D

Hi guys, now I'm very mindful that we have a goodly Canadian contingent on this forum, and we don't want an International "Incident" on our hands, so I won't post the "I'm a Lumberjack" video by Monty Python which immediately sprang to mind when I read that last bit..................................................... The heck I won't !!..ear it be, me dears >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zey8567bcg

Paul, Paul, Paul, dear lad---------------all things in Domesticland come with a price tag attached, you know that.............. Has the M-i-L visited lately ??................ Try to frown when the IoW subject comes up or she'll suspect that you might be planning to enjoy yourself..And that, as we all know, is the "Crime de La Crime" so to speak.......................It's my birthday on the 19th so maybe Joyce and I could spend that week at my Sister's place and I'll pop down for the "Singles" event----on my own, naturally !! ( I'm also a member of Reading MES so will bring the NCB Simplex for a run...)......
