What a great looking model, shame it's totally bolloxed up with the lining round the number on the cab !

I'm glad to see AndrewP's comment as even though I'm in the far North [ other side of Hadrian's Wa' ] I have been to Keighley in Yorkshire, is there another one ? Is there such a thing as Northamptonshire ? or is it a fictional place like Balamory and Englandshire ?

Just to lighten the mood a tad, I remember a local plumber some 25 years ago measuring something for pipework at a horticultural nursery, and he declared " that's 35cm" turned the tape measure over " and 3/8"! "

Try starting alphabetically, Aberlour for instance. The ' Gs' will take a while what with Glen Dronach and all the other wonderful Glens of Scotland, but as DJ points out, Glen Moray takes a bit of beating. Was it Chic Murray who, when he fell with a half bottle in his hip pooch, felt something wet and said " Dear God, I hope that's blood and no' whisky! "
Slainte,

This is maybe a silly idea, but, is there such a thing as an insulation that could be painted on to the boiler before the brass cladding goes round, or to put it another way, a paint that would do as an insulation layer ?

I have discovered this problem with Lickham Hall by LBSC as well so it would be interesting to know if all his designs had this problem.

I would agree with Mark [6233]. I started off from scratch and it took me nearly 30 years to finish [marriage, mortgage and kids] and have since bought a restoration job from Station Road and a part built as well that I'm working on just now [ got all the brass sheet cut by Polly for the tender and cab which saved me a helluva lotta noisy hacksawing ] My next project [ hopefully ] will be a S&D 7F more or less from scratch. To link to another thread about crossheads, started by JB I think, I have often showed visitors a bar of BMS and a finished crosshead with a detailed description of the operations involved in producing it...........they don't usually stay long unless they are my kind of people....

On the way back from a Hogmanay Dance near Glasgow this morning I thought about New Year resolutions. I think probably a lot of us are not very good at finishing things that we've started. I certainly fall into that category and I'm constantly reminded about it by my wife. So.... when I got home at 3.30am I finished off a packet of biscuits that I'd started, also some cheese, and I finished that bottle of Glenfiddich oh, and I finished off a bottle of Macallan as well.
A Happy and productive New Year to you all !
Ian.

I was at the NRM on the 10th of this month and Tornado was being painted there and unveiled on the 13th but it was all very secret and even the staff weren't able to see it before the unveiling. I've heard nothing since. I looked at their website about a week ago to see if there were any updates, but no.
Cheers,
Ian.

Hi Mark, To add to what Shawki has said, if you have a digital camera take as many photos as you can and then take some more! I found it invaluable when I was rebuilding the inside of frames on a Maisie that I stripped to repaint. Regards, Ian.

Andy, I think the steamy night [ mentioned by David ] highlighted by Danny Hopkins, editor of Steam Railway, was prior to 20th November as I read it in the November 11th - December 14th issue. The point made by Danny was that BBC 4 had just posted it's biggest ever viewing figures for one evening. Cheers,
Ian.
