One day, I'll underline my final Western, the only one I never saw was Champion, been to Bridgnorth a few times but it must have been hidden away!

Lovely! Such an elegant loco and you've certainly captured that elegance and done it justice. Ian

Lovely loco, I have a part built one under the bench which I add to now and again and hope to complete if I ever get to retire😊

Surprised that no one has replied to your query of equivalent locos of other companies in 1908, my own 2 favourites would be the Ivatt Atlantics of the GNR (Maisie ) and the 903 class of the Caledonian Railway, the most famous being Cardean which was named after the estate of one of the company's directors or maybe chairman Edward Cox, jute baron of Dundee, I worked on Cardean estate and my house is called Cardean, they also owned Drumkilbo, hence my nom de plume. Hopefully others will come up with equivalent locos of other companies. The Great Bear seems to be a mighty beast and well named. Ian

Good to see an update Pete, Paul built the boiler for my S & D 7f and it is superb, he's built a 7f himself and at least one other 7f boiler so knew any problems from the design, it was more than I could cope with myself and not being a member of a club any boiler I made would only be worth the scrap value, made a boiler for my Rob Roy and tbough I've tested it to my own satisfaction that means nothing elsewhere.

Interesting John, I have never used one either but can see the potential in them and have been thinking recently that that's the way to go, will watch what you decide , with interest! Ian

He also wrote that unmentionable play which I'm not going to mention but it's a Scottish play.

Interesting stuff, what a character and inspiration to us lesser mortals in the model engineering world.

Really like the satin sort of finish John........as a self employed gardener I'm not quite so impressed with the AstroTurf or whatever it's called nowadays 😕

Chris Vine's 'How not to' book is the answer! Even when you've made a bollox of it at least you can identify what you did wrong and rectify it. Ian

Looking superb Pete, your professional model making skills are obviously showing through in the finish of the paintwork , but then we wouldn't expect anything else. Ian

I was surprised at the car parking arrangements too, I'd assume that on certain race days there'd be a helluva lot more punters than would go to a model engineering exhibition. I did much prefer Harrogate mysself, but a highlight for me on Saturday was just when I was thinking of leaving I spotted a lovely LNER B1 modelled as Mayflower on the Scunthorpe society stand, as I was looking closely at it, a gentleman engaged me in conversation about it, of course he was the builder but I had a great chat with this lovely chap about many things loco and engineering for about 20 minutes, highlight of my visit! Made the long journey down from near Aberdeen and visited today for the first time since it moved from Harrogate, still stayed in Harrogate though as my wife didn't fancy shopping in Doncaster. Found the traders I needed stuff from to be very busy and had to hang back a bit before I could browse much, pre ordered stuff from Model Engineers Laser so that was quite efficient, had a look upstairs at 12.30 and saw someone who I realise now with the photo above, was Reg, sorry I never made contact ☺ Ian

That's a bugger, can't see my wife enjoying wandering round Doncaster like she does in Harrogate while I'm at the show plus just noticed it's a different weekend 20th-22nd May, accommodation already booked in Harrogate for the usual weekend! Sad & Disgruntled.
