Can't believe the last update was 2021! I've done a little bit on this now and then but at the weekend I finally made some progress and the tender tank is almost ready for a coat of primer. Since I've had the new printer I've been trying to work out the lamp irons and front hand rail stanchions. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr The main focus has been at the front end finishing off the hand rails, brake and scoop handles and a few other little details. I've now filled a lot of gaps with JB weld so I can flat them back and its now a case of waiting for the castings to come back from the foundry and flattening out the marks from riveting, I may find that some filler primer is needed to get a really flat surface in the end but for now I'm just looking to get it in primer whilst its all clean. I had a mad urge to start on the boiler before the end of the year and decided to grab a big pot of flux from CUP Alloys whilst at the Midlands show to ensure I had everything I need to get going. With that in mind I just needed to finalise my design and get my BI to sign off the drawing. The basis of the boiler is a No4 standard boiler to suit the Keith Wilson general dimensions but this gives a more scale shape to the boiler so BI just wants to see an update drawing to show some of the details. See below. City Boiler Drawing by Adam Cro, on Flickr Here are just some shots of the CAD model to give a feel for how it will look. This should be pretty simple to make but possibly a little tricky to lap in, this side of things can always change later on as doesn't effect the actual boiler design. Boiler 8 by Adam Cro, on Flickr As a reminder here is the flanged boiler parts from Southern Boilers. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Once approved I'll make a start on tube plates and then getting the fit of the inner and outer firebox correct. The plates are quite a bit over length so this will also need addressing before too long then lots of tubes to turn to length and bushes to make! This should be fun! Adam

All approved - and so it begins! I'm very conscious of making a mistake so I'm triple checking all dimensions as I go. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Adam

A late night on Thursday allowed me to complete the front tube plate. Some creative thinking with the tooling I had to create the Superheater flue holes but its done now and onto the front firebox tubeplate. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr I did almost mess this up by drilling the bottom row to close to the row above but I was able to correct this before it was too late, should have read my own drawing correctly. I used an adjustable reamer to get the fit right and I'm pleased with the snug sliding fit. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Adam

An early morning this time saw the completion of the firebox tubeplate. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Now to start facing the tubes to length. Untitled by Adam Cro, on Flickr Next up will be the backhead and then I'll start assembling the inner firebox ready for some heat. Adam
