-------I had the same thing appear yesterday......been using tinypics since then-------Could it be an INDIVIDUAL limitation by proboards rather than the forum as a whole ?? ( Sorry guys, I'm not at all computer literate eg}-- a MEGABYTE was the breakfast Roger bought me on Tuesday !!!! )---- see what I mean I think it's an absolute forum limit that we're nudging up against. Think of one character here as one byte and then compare that with anything from 2000 to 3000,000 bytes for pictures and you can see that pictures are really greedy on space. If you save a link, the link is maybe 50 bytes long and it's just a pointer to where the picture is stored. That's why it's so much more economical on forum resources. The result on the post is indistinguishable from embedding the picture. Roger

I'm no expert with things like this and I'm not an idiot either, but I've been trying for over a week to start a buid thread with images attached to it, and I'm just about ready to give up. If I try to upload from my computer I get the same error as Roger, if log in with my phone I don't get the option to add pictures, I've even bought the proboards app and can't even write a thread on it, I can only view others. Ebay, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube all easy in comparison. Tim.

hi Tim
have you tried using a host?.. I use photobucket, copy the direct image from there and then you can post using the 'insert image' tag here.. just paste into the box.
Regards
Pete

I shall persevere!

I went back to flickr simply because it has practically unlimited free storage capacity and I didn't want to have to migrate to something else if I ran out.

If you must post a photo direct from your computer hard drive, reduce it as I do(on the rare times)when I post on any site, and knock it back to 640 x 480, on my photo album this is just a click on the photo you want. isc

Hi Roger,i tried all last night to put something on and got the same response as you but i'm no expert on laptops. Geoff (Carlisle). Hi Geoff, yes, I think we've reached the end of the road with that method of uploading attachments. Links to photos stored elsewhere is the way forward and there are quite a few sites that offer free storage and are mentioned in this thread. Photobucket seems popular but I ended up with Flickr because it has the largest amount of free storage. Just google one of those and create an account, it's easy and free. You can upload photos easily to the chosen site, and then use the Insert Image icon from the toolbar here instead of the Add Attachment. When you click that, you'll get a dialog box where you paste the link to your photo. By all means PM me and I'll guide you through the process if you choose Flickr because I know how to get the link from photos there. I'm sure others will know how it's done from Photobucket etc Cheers, Roger

I've tried to paste links to two drawings of Ernest Steel's 7 1/4 inch gauge West Country (shortened links at that as suggested by someone) using the Insert Image button from Dropbox but no luck these are the links so if anyone can make them work from the forum ie appear as images i'd be much obliged as to learn how. www.dropbox.com/l/r04BdEZbgyJUgb2mjm1die?www.dropbox.com/l/fLw5CcmRlM5GWBHGaJ3ek21?regards Martyn

Give me an hour or two and I'll post a step-by-step guide. I wrote one for Julian. I've posted your pics in your other thread, using you photobucket links.

Guys,
Please re-consider if you are thinking of removing images after a certain period of time.
There is nothing more frustrating than finding just the thread you have been looking for, only to find all the photographs have been removed.
It has happened to me a couple of times.
Just my two bob's worth.
Ned
