Roger, I'm now having the same problem. The last two (weensy) files I've tried to post have been refused due to "limit exceeded."

Hello Harry------- you'll need to use an external host ( I can recommend Tinypics---- tinypic.com/?t=postupload --- ) in order to post photos etc..............Use the IMG option

Check out the methods posted on other threads here. I use Flickr to host my picture and then use the Link and copy/paste the BBCode link that the export option gives me when I go to that picture. You have to click the icon with the little arrow and select the size of the image you wish to link to. Just paste the links straight into the Quick reply text. I leave a few spaces between each one and then click Reply, which then magically shows the pictures and lets me add whatever comments I care to add.

I failed to follow up . . . I subscribed to tinypic and that's working well. Thanks.

As long as you didn't "follow through" ??-------- Easy to use, isn't it ??

Yes, and quite a bit easier to use than than a couple of drop-box sites I've used in the past, one of which went away and took my photos with it.
As for the other, . . . in our local patois taking your advice and successfully creating a tinypic account would be said to be "following through." Returning to acknowledge the advice and report a successful outcome, while not necessary, would be "following up."

There is a complete alternative way of dealing with this problem if anyone wants to .
It is very easy these days to set up a personal website . Many free and low cost hosts each with application software which is practically tick box . No need to learn the tortuous web site programming languages at all unless you are particularly interested .
For the purpose of storing pictures and accessing by any approved forum or individual only a minimal installation is needed - no need to make it interactive or intelligent or multipage . You can opt to make site private as well so that random browsers cannot access it .
Properly done many pictures can be stored and accessed by any approved forum site as required .
Personal website storage means that this or any other forum is not loaded with high storage problems .
It may be possible to find a web host that will pre-programme a special website template that only needs to be personalised for use . I think there are a few in use already actually .

This is true, and I've used Wix to create mine here. It was very simple indeed but the problem with personal web sites is that they have to be maintained and hosted. This means that they can vanish, leaving orphaned links. Keeping pictures alive, years after posting a thread is what we're really looking for so I don't think this is a good alternative. Photo hosting sites are much more likely to still be there in years to come, as are Wiki sites.

There are almost as many Great Experts on this site as on the ME forum so I can't be bothered anymore . My details will now be removed from this site .

Forums are a great place to explore every possible angle and solution to every problem. It shouldn't be taken as a personal affront, just because someone doesn't agree with you.

Unfortunately Roger, there are those who believe their opinions are the only ones valid and then get in a huff when someone does disagree with them. Very childish.

This amuses me, this chap has been on 2 forums and thinks all the people on both are "Great Experts" Maybe just maybe the problem isn't the wide range of people on 2 separate forums but the one that seems to have a problem with the many??? Sorry, doing that thinking thing again Cheers Ben

That's too bad, although I did sense a bit of "Nuff sed" edge to what few of his posts I stumbled across. Perhaps there was considerably more 'nuff saiddishness there than I sensed.

i am very sorry to see michaelw suddenly disappear as he is a minefield of extremely valuable info and experience. he suddenly disappeared off the 'official' ME forum and was sadly missed as his contributions were always very pertinent and well thought out. i hope he reads this and reconsiders. cheers, julian

My thoughts are that even if we as members start to use a host for images from this point on, we will still be banging up against the upload limits.
Is it worth suggesting that we go back into our threads and replace some of the large directly uploaded photos with host links which should free up space ? does it it work like that ??

This is probably true, but I doubt if many of the people who posted the early images are even using the Forum today. You won't run up against the image size limits on 3rd party hosting, you usually get 1TB for each user. I'm less than 2% into my limit. The issue is only whether they will suddenly pull the bridge up like PhotoBucket did.

Yes Roger
a case of once bitten twice shy I guess, but I hope not. I should hope that Flickr et al will have taken note of the backlash and negative reaction to PB's Hare Kiri actions.
