Hi Ken it came as three phase but i swapped for a single phase motor and tried it but it is too big and noisy and a Brooks stent variant came at a good price so i use that instead as it is quieter and takes up less room.

Hi Andy 2HP is slightly different from 2.2 Kw. My L6 has a 2HP single Phase motor it has a clutch so the only time it takes time to get up to speed is on first start up you then stop and start with the clutch lever and no trouble getting a good finish on a 11.5" steel blank for my traction engine gears.I have a smaller lathe which does have a VFD and they are not all they are cracked up to be.At low revs you still have to use the gearbox because the VFD tries to stall with a decent cut on or trying to put a 1/2" drill in from a center drill.Graham

Hello Roger unfortunately the motor only has 3 wires coming out and the motor has a extended shaft that runs into the gearbox and has the gears on it. Andy i have tried to understand all three of the workshop practice books and find them hard going especially the Graham Astbury one.It looks like the only way is to try and get the star point changed to delta, there is nothing to lose as it is no good at all as it is.Thanks Graham

One thing that has not been mentioned and is another can of worms is that Europe decreed that our electricity be produced from gas not coal because it was more environmentally friendly so a cheaper source of energy of which we have several hundred years supply is discarded and all our power stations are owned by outsiders and the miners thrown out of work and this makes steel production and other industry a lot more expensive.

Pete you have to realize that the sale of or redevelopment of the site is far more important than the livelihood of a few thousand people to our masters or their rich *anker friends!

Hi Andy you can always turn the shank down to suit the size of the chuck you are using i have found the shanks of taper shank drills can be turned down with a high speed tool as long as you go slowly.Graham

If you want to travel north to south no problem but east to west forget it.Nothing changes.

Hi Tony i bought one of these about two years ago.It came with the horizontal rail and angled support and i mounted it on a scaffold pole that is fixed in three places to the workshop wall and two braces across the roof beams for lifting chucks and large vices it cannot be beaten. On it's short setting it is "supposed" to lift 250 kilos. Most of the things i lift are about 50kilos well within it;s limits.Graham

steambuff2 said! "The office of fair trading (amongst others) state that :- "Traders must clearly show the selling price inclusive of VAT, except when selling to businesses." A few model engineering businesses could be breaking the law if that is the case as in some web shops the price is is plus vat and post and packing

"Goldstar said" The brother of one of the contributors to this forum offered me a surplus pair of alpaccas from his farm. It was in a Chinese banquet but what is Crispy Alpacca or Alpacca Bhuna like?
Probably more like lamb than chicken.

Hi Andy in my experience 5c collet will only clamp a few thou down and you will have to force anything over dead size into them They are best on dead size doing long runs and that is it ER are a much better buy.
