Hi JB, Your other half sounds like my other half ! Unfortunately my other half gave up her job to act as a carer for an elderly relative across the road which entails 3 or 4 visits a day for meals etc., this leaves me with a very small window of opportunity to get things delivered and stashed away. Yes, perhaps the credit crunch will provide a few pickings for us vultures, so long as it doesn't affect our suppliers as they are already few and far between. Brit's looking good by the way.
Cheers,
Ian.

I've had excellent results with the Kite miniature gravity feed spray gun from Precision Paints [ £82 ] , the nozzle size on mine is 1.0mm, but according to the box there is the option for 0.5mm and 0.8mm. I'm using it for 3-1/2" gauge.

Hi Ron, The October issue of " Steam Days " has a photo of Bulldog 3443 Chaffinch plus an article [ 14 pages/ 25 photos ] about the Dukedogs/Earl class.
Cheers,

Western Steam ask for 10% deposit which I think is quite acceptable.

Reminds me that a distant relative had a shed in the garden that his wife called his " Huffing Hoose " Mention of the Cooncil also reminds me of a lad near here who erected a shelter for his horse. A nearby householder complained resulting in a visit from an officious planning officer telling him that a horse wasn't classified as livestock so the shelter would have to go, it would have been allowed in the case of sheep, cows, goats, pigs etc.. So, the landowner said " Well, I'll just get some sheep then..." Official said " That won't do because the horse will use it " Landowner then replied " No it won't, because I'm going to put up a sign saying...NO HORSES ALLOWED."

Etching primer worked for me, I just used the aerosol cans from Precision Paints rather than bother with 2 pack etch primer. Until I got Chris's book I'd never realised that you couldn't paint straight on to brass.

Well done ! I think that of anything I've ever done model-engineering wise, getting my first loco to run on air was the most satisfying, so if you're anything like me you'll be like the proverbial "Cheshire cat !"

Perhaps to add a comparison to this thread, has anyone had a recent quote for a boiler kit? The last boiler kit [ barrel, tubes, all the flanged plates and firebox wrapper] that I bought was for Rob Roy from Model and Miniature Railways of Rochdale in 1982 for £37.95. I was quoted £1412 in July for a boiler for 3-1/2" gauge Hall, to be completed about Jan/Feb 2009.

Hi All,
What width should boiler bands for 3 -1/2" gauge loco [ Maisie ] be ? I have done them on a Rob Roy with 1/8" banding as per the construction manual and they look alright, but having done them on Maisie they look a bit narrow, or is it just me ?

Just checked a recent Reeves invoice with their online price and the VAT is already added on as you said Andy, apologies for that. So, Didcot driving wheels would be £127.56.
Cheers,
Ian.

Andy, you might be right about the VAT already being on the online prices but all the old catalogues that I have say at bottom of the page " prices subject to the relevant VAT charge " Cheers,
Ian

Yes, but then you have to go to the garage and spend 20p to pump up your spare tyre again.

Yes nicely put Havoc. You have put into words what I was thinking, and I am really impressed with the quality and detail and end result. Well done to Spamcanman for posting all this, many thanks.

This is maybe a silly question, but, are all the external parts, cladding, wheels etc. already painted when you get the kit? It is a superb finish, and a superb looking loco, well done!
Regards,
Ian.

Funnily enough, the comments about aluminium corrosion have triggered a memory... about 7 or 8 miles from here up in the hills between Glen Clova and Glen Lethnot is the 1942 wreck of a Wellington bomber. I first visited it in 1979 [ it was pointed out to me from a distance whilst working at the deer stalking in 1975 ] and I've been up there many times since, and the tail assembly is still virtually complete [ think Geodetic/ Barnes Wallis here, but not bouncing bombs ] and I have always been struck at how good the condition of the aluminium is, despite all the Scottish weather has thrown at it since WW2.
