Just tried to use the link as shown on the oct26 post but the website seems frozen. Still unable to add a photo to post using my ipad, any ideas? My url from my hosting site is “https://listerengine.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?pid=13780&fullsize=1” but cant find a way to add this using the insert image button. Any help would be appreciated. John Hi John, You need a BBCode link, something like the one I'm seting you as a personal message

Something has changed in Dropbox and all previous Dropbox photos I have posted on this forum are no longer displaying. The old trick of putting raw=1 at the end of the link worked two weeks ago, but not now. Dropbox want £200 p.a. for web image support.
What are other people finding is working?

Imgur is still free but who knows for how long? I wonder if it's possible to use a 'cloud' storage site for hosting web images? Free cloud is available from many sources, for example, Samsung offer 15 GB of free space although I think that this may be only for a year, not sure what happens after that? I think I also have free cloud storage from my broadband supplier too, perhaps something worth looking in to?

Free for personal storage and sharing files with others, up to some size limit. BUT, they detect image posting to a web forum, I think it is called sharing to a hosting site. I am loathe to use a free one like Imagur or whoever if they do the same as Photobox (or whoever it was). Norm

What, where, when, how ? and did you solve the https problem?? Hello Norm,
I will PM you with contact details of my hosting company. And regarding https, well obviously "yes" because you can see all my pictures.
Regards, Steve
Edit: I got that wrong. I pay £15.00 a year for the 1GB package with free SSL. As a guide, my complete website contains 4,200 files and takes up approx 180MB at present. If all my pictures were stored at 1600 x 1200 resolution it would still be under 600MB. Why to model engineers happily spend hundreds or thousands of pounds on their hobby but bitch at paying £0.29 per week to store their photos online?

Review of photo posting:- Dropbox has managed to detect people (like me) who had a workaround to their attempts since 2017 to stop free posting of photos to websites. The lowest price 'Personal' package to let you do it seems to be £8 p.m. That's too much for me. Flickr Pro and Imgur seem well liked and (currently?) allow free photo hosting to web. Will they go the same way as Photobucket and charge? I found ImgBB (I think mentioned by delaplume) which is a basic, no-frills photo hosting service. I just tried it and it works, but you have to understand what the HTML code on this site wants when you paste in the address link. I also need to play with its directory and file management structure to organise my links in a day or two. It seems to be a basic, bulletin board support set up, which hopefully might not become commercial, we shall see. Steve got me interested in setting up my own domain, but I think you have to use a shared one if you want the HTTPS or SSL security bits that this and other sites demand. Anyone got other suggestions? Norm

With all this talk of hosting sites and possible loss of free web posting I tried a little experiment. Below is a number of attempts to get an image hosted directly from my blog, as can be seen most are broken but one did work by choosing 'search google for the image', it's too small but at least it worked. The broken links also work if right clicking and selecting 'open in new tab' which gives you a full image.. I suspect that with a little intervention by my son with some fresh code that I could host my own images and not need a site like Imgur? Something to consider for the future perhaps? 4472flyingscotsman.co.uk/content/images/size/w1000/2021/02/20210226_142256-1.jpgRegards Pete Edit: ah, strangely, the broken images don't show when creating the post, they do show when editing as I am now? Scrub that 'edit' they are now showing, just took their time in getting here..

I'm still using these at the moment with no apparent probs}----- imgbb.com/ ----- I can fully understand folk who have a Blog of a loco build etc with say hundreds of images to protect wanting some security of tenure ( and access by others ) as it were, and are prepared to pay a small premium to that end......quite right too. By contrast my posted images tend to be a "one-off" type in answer to a question or problem posed by a Forum member, and as such aren't worth spending money on....I have everything stored on disc anyway for retrieval when required.... It seems to me that you pays your money and makes your choice...

My photobucket account has been disabled because hosting goes against their terms? Has there been some sort of crack down on using free accounts to post to other sites?

Connor Hi Connor I dont know about photobucket but have you considered using Google Photos? The account is free and you can store up to 16Gbytes. I have just started using it and it seems to work very well. I just open the image within google photos in a new tab and then copy the URL into the post. Like this

I can see it in that thread. I tried using images on DropBox that way, and it doesn't work. I'm not sure that cloud services are intended to support that kind of image hosting. It wouldn't surprise me if one day the posted images are no longer available.

Can anyone explain to a Luddite how to post a photo herein from an Imgur account please? My photos which are stored appear with various HTML - BBC codes beside them, so what do I do next? When I try to copy these codes nowt happens! Best Guy

This is an image from IMGUR. You need to get a link to the image and not the webpage. If you right click the image and select open image in new tab then copy the image URL it works. However as others have said this only works if the URL remains constant and there is no gaurentee of that. Graham

I have failed to post pics from my Flickr site since Flickr changed things. Roger gave me some instructions but I have misplaced these. Photo host = Flickr Browser - Firefox PC- Windows (I do not want to use a phone etc, only via my PC)
Once upon a time you could right click the photo and copy the jpeg code and use this in the insert image thingie, but the Flickr right click properties has disappeared. I am lost. Roger how do you do it ? Help
