You don't need rose tinted glasses ;D That's what I see when looking around on a good day and a location is better than some of the ones picked Chris

Bob, I am bloody foreigner in more ways than one and only have moved to Devon 18 years ago, so the natives are not talking to me yet ;D, but it's a beautiful part of the world (with very few adverts) indeed. Chris

Bob, no I don't see it either when I have noscript and adblock on, but in the spirit of public service I have temporarily turned it off to see what's going on. Mike, I am normally laid back as well but right now I am prevented from doing anything useful by domestic upheavals (builders), so I am entertaining myself with this ad nonsense (in the spirit of Victor Meldrew ;D ) Chris

...Advertising links deleted in aforesaid post... and ...some bloody centrifugal compressor and an ad from Wickes... Alan, I don't know what you have deleted, but as Norman says - the embedded links to YouTube videos appear on the board with adverts beside them, like so: Of course, when using noscript.net/ it appears like this: This is (I think) what we are talking about. And just as an experiment to see if this is something to do with This "...bloody centrifugal compressor video..." here another YouTube video embedded link: Let's see if this one appears with adds as well? Chris later edit - yes it still appears with an add, so it's nothing to do with "...bloody centrifugal compressor video..." - it looks to me like it is googleadservices.com

Yes, it was "billboards" that made me think you were from across the pond. We don't have them here in wild North Devon BTW my experiment with embedding has failed miserably and even just using url link with BB code one gets adverts. Perhaps it is nothing to do with YouTube? Must be ProBoards than? Chris

You must be from USofA judging from some of your vocabulary? That probably explains cultural difference in attitudes to advertising Hoardings are not allowed here in UK, so on my way to town I just admire scenery, without having to ignore anything... You should be able to embed without the advertising by using BB code and the url address for the video: At least I hope so - if not, than perhaps my theories are a lot of nonsense BTW my interest in this "issue" is purely academic, since (as I have mentioned previously) I didn't even see the adverts, simply because I am using Firefox with noscript.net/Chris

Hey sonicspeed66 - perhaps you should start another thread titled 2011 Events? 2010 is already behind us ...

Mike, of course I have no problem with the way YouTube/Google etc finance their business using adverts. The "dodgy" practice I had in mind was the way they catch unwary/ignorant etc and slip in these adverts into our forum. I guess if the original poster provided a link instead of using embedded html we would not be subject to the adverts. So instead of using: <objecty width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5ka-aseTUvQ&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5ka-aseTUvQ&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></objective>
he could have used: www.youtube.com/user/ArkAngelDesign#p/a/u/0/5ka-aseTUvQand everything would be hanky dory ;D Chris ps I have "doctored" the dodgy link to avoid the same crap as caused by original poster, so it doesn't actually work, but illustrates the point (hopefully).

I am still of the opinion, that in this case it is simply a member, who hasn't got a clue about computers and a victim himself of dodgy YouTube practices. Not to be confused with spammer - these are indeed easily dealt with by using "Report to Mod" function.

I don't see any "adverts for footware", but that's because I use "NoScript" with my Firefox. However ... in the interest of experiment I have temporarily disabled "No Script" and yes indeed - now I can see B&Q sale advert. Is it though, accidental, caused by forum member who doesn't know how to embed piece of YouTube? or is it something nasty as you are suggesting? Don't know Chris ps get yourself noscript.net/ (assuming you are using Firefox) and you will be oblivious to all this crap (like myself)

...one of the posts has a flashing sig for a brand of sports shoe which is larger than the post... I think Abby, you will find that it was a spammer (usual hint - first post is an advert ) and his/her postings have already disappeared. Unless I am wrong? - in which case, can you please post a link to the offending item? Chris

If you have space and know what you doing, there is no better deal than second-hand industrial machinery. I wouldn't buy the mill in question for that kind of money.

"...It´s too small, even for model engineering..." For a model engineer you are not very precise :-) It depends what scale you model engineer in - might be too small for 5" gauge model, but I am sure would be great for gauge 1... Certainly better than vertical slide on your lathe Chris

In full size practice the wheels are keyed to the axles for two reasons, a) to stop them twisting on the axle and, b) to quarter them. I've never been able to understand why more model engineers don't adopt the same practice... This is exactly how it is described in the book "So You Want To Build A Steam Locomotive" by Joseph Foster Nelson (see page 36,37). So, at least some model engineers adopt this practice
