Likewise Pete, I ordered spring steel from him on 3rd October and got no response and thought I'd emailed to the wrong address sent one to the other email address and Doug replied saying that I'd got the right address and that Mike would get back to me when he could................well he did yesterday to see if I still wanted it, as I haven't ordered anywhere else I suppose I do but can I remember what I wanted it for?

Merely restored by me Pete, it lay in bits in a shed for 20 years and I bought it as an exercise in learning how to spray paint, tender had to be beadblasted and a few bits made that were missing. As I've said elsewhere Chris Vine's book was a tremendous help [usual disclaimer] and it still is as I've been delving through the book this last few days again as it's so long ago since we've had a decent spell of weather I've forgotten a lot of the procedures involved.

I was involved with a fund raising stall at the 39th Transport Extravaganza at Glamis Castle last weekend. I took along a Rob Roy on Saturday and Maisie on Sunday as a way of getting people to stop at the stall. Needless to say the locos attracted a few model engineers and a few ex BR firemen and drivers from Dundee Tay bridge shed and Perth shed, very interesting chatting to them all! Some of them fired the A4s in the mid 60s when they had their final fling up past Glamis on the Glasgow- Aberdeen expresses, others from Dundee shed spoke lovingly about the Black Fives. One curious thing that I and some of my pals noticed was that a lot of women stopped and looked very closely at the locos...they had that wistful look on their faces as if they were thinking ' I wish my man would have a hobby like that...at least I'd ken where he was, keep him oot o' the pub and oot o' my way as well' Ian

Great stuff Pete, funnily enough I've just come in from painting a Hall tender, the flat sided Hawksworth one. The first coat went on about 3 years ago and like a few others I've been waitng for a suitable dry spell! I sprayed one side yesterday, the back today and hopefully the other side tomorrow, that way I can leave it horizontal to flatten out and avoid runs. I use a cheapo greenhouse, now that all the plants are planted. Ian Attachments:

Rather oddly, I can get pics coming up on my thread about building Ivo Peters 7f through my bookmarks, but only up until about March 2010, after that there's no pics, just the attachment exceeding notice.

Like Pete, I had missed this thread as well until today [another foot of snow outside so I'm pottering] Superb work and detail, will be a lovely and interesting loco when she's finished, well done, I too will keep an eye on this now!
