Really enjoyed the programme Pete, thanks for pointing it out. I went on a railtour with FS roundabout 1970 from Kings X to Leicester and back.

Yes John, this is the winter workshop! Still do the messy stuff outside though, but I have a wee Unimat lathe up there with a milling attachment which is very handy now and again.

A brief update on this project, here's a photo of some of the bits and pieces that go to make up the springs and compensating gear made about a year and a half ago. Ian Attachments:

Hope these pics answer your question, Richard. I discussed with Western about the top feeds as there was little or no mention on Curly's plans [from what I recollect anyway] and will fit as you said, with the clacks further back. Ian Attachments:

Interesting thread that I will follow, FWIW, here's a couple of pics of a boiler for Lickham Hall made for me by Western Steam a couple of years ago, when it's offered up to the smoke box the cladding sits perfectly, no room for insulation under it though. Ian Attachments:

Rex, I was aware of my wife yawning when I tried to explain that what we were seeing was a 'spokeshave' being used, there's a clue in the name after all. A couple of years ago, I was renovating my Grandfather's horse plough [used by my Dad as well] and the very tool that I wanted to use for forming the handles/shafts or stilts as they call them in this part of Scotland, was a spokeshave. Nae chance, I just had to adapt with what I already had!

I enjoyed the second in the series tonight more than the first, probably because it was about things I knew nowt about. As I've said before, he's a likeable lad, his enthusiasm is infectious [in a good way] and I hope the general public take to him and allow him to do well.
